ground turmeric is the most common form of the spice. turmeric has an earthy aroma and pungent, slightly bitter flavor that has a hint of mustard or horseradish. it's often included in curry powder spice blend. turmeric gets stronger when cooked.
when stored in a sealed container in a cool, dark place. and ground turmeric can last up to six month, exposure to light & heat will potency faster.
in parts of Asia turmeric water is applied as a cosmetic to lend a golden glow to the complexion. reputed to have anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is sometimes consumed as a tea or in pill form for a variety of ailments, including arthritis and intestinal problems.
wear gloves and an apron and cover any surfaces when using ground or fresh turmeric as it can dye your finger, clothing and countertop!
