Ground sun dried Mace aril from the island of Grenada. Our most prized spice is referred to as Black Gold. Nutmeg was introduced to Grenada by King George II in 1782.
Mace is the red lacy coating (called the aril or blades) that encases the nutmeg seed from a tropical evergreen tree (Myristica fragrans). Tho native to Indonesia and it’s also found in some Caribbean islands, particularly Grenada, where nutmeg is the national symbol and appears on the country's flag.
It's ideal to purchase whole mace blades and grind for the best in enjoying the sweet, woody, and warm, with a mild pungent kick of mace.
Mace is found in spice mixtures, such as curry powder, garam masala. baked goods such as donuts, cakes, puddings, and custards.
When stored properly in a tightly-sealed jar or container in a cool, dark place extends mace’s shelf life. Both ground mace and blades should last up to one year.
